The Society of Editors Media Freedom Awards Photo Journalist of the Year went to Simon Townsley for incredible images depicting the most extreme human stories.

Save the Children International is proud to announce the finalists for its inaugural Global Media Awards 2024, a prestigious set of awards that celebrate excellence in journalism focused on child rights.

The Media Freedom Awards set the benchmark for a celebration of UK public interest and campaigning journalism.

Judges praised Townsley’s “beautiful set of images, which bear witness to some of the biggest news stories of the year, and show a photographer at the top of his game.”

The annual Media Awards, which are now in their 32nd year, highlight excellence in human rights journalism, as well as the bravery of journalists who risk their lives to uncover human rights abuses around the world and hold power to account.
