Finalist, UK Picture Editors’ Guild Awards

Townsley shortlisted in two categories, Sony National Newspaper Photographer of the Year and Fleet Street’s Finest Essay Photographer of the Year.

Over two thousand photographs were considered by our panel of judges who were asked to decide their best photographers in this very talented field of photojournalists. The judges, led by newly appointed Picture Editor for the Daily and Sunday Telegraph, Jason Green, deliberated for many hours to decide which of the images in 12 categories stood out in this exceptionally talented group. The photographer with the most points will be crowned the UKPEG Press Photographer of the Year. Jason was supported by Jane Sherwood (News Editor EMEA for Getty Images), Matthew Fearn (Head of Pictures for The Times and Sunday Times), Zoe Linkson (Deputy Picture Editor at PA Media), and Alan Hamilton (Picture Editor for The Independent) and Marisa Cashill (Head of Audio Visual). In these difficult times where doubts are constantly cast on the news as it is presented by the media the Guild is proud to say that the work of photographers working for the British Press is without doubt genuine.
